Resigning

Hi Gs,

It’s been really fun being on this blog — I’ve made some awesome friends, posted tons of posts, and had a great time. 🙂 I think it’s time for me to resign, however. I’ve been really busy lately, and I think it’s best to leave. I hope you guys understand.

Adios. 🙂

A Pop Down Memory Lane

(¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.-> Hi Gs, <-.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯)

Poptropica has been around for 6 years, and over that period of time, many things have happened. I felt compelled to post this because with all the new things happening, the community seems to think that we’re losing sight of the genius Poptropica that we once knew. The Poptropica IPad app recently came out, and even though I don’t support it 100%, it doesn’t take away any more from the original game. I’ll express my thoughts on the app later, but for now, I’m here to tell you that we’re not necessarily losing Poptropica. Let’s begin! 😀

pdmll

When Poptropica started back in 2007, it was nothing more than a playground for the educational FunBrain.com. It was a place that kids could take a break. Unsurprisingly, Poptropica became more popular than FunBrain itself.

So, Poptropica started to get popular. It was mid 2008. The Poptropica Help Blog was born.

adbear

I also want to mention that around this time, Monster Carnival Island appeared and disappeared on the map. 😉

For a period of time, advertisements coexisted along with islands, almost like little brothers. Most were alerted on the Creator’s Blog, and video walkthroughs were also made for them.

We then got hints of the Poptropica Store, with four new costumes — one of which, a lamb costume, has never been released. Maybe the creators should get to that soon… 😛 And what happened to that pesky monkey? After that, news of Poptropica Membership was leaked.

sheepmascot

Popularity Contests were started by the Creators. They continued for a while and then stopped… Who thinks that the PHB should do them again?

Those were the days. Everything was so new. *wipes tear* Let’s use our time machine to go forward to the brisk year of 2013.

-Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey Machine cutscene-

Poptropica now has it’s own DS game. That’s impressive. The Friends feature has been added as well. And there’s even books — and clothing!

Woaahhhh! Look at that list of toys! You could never get bored with all thi– never mind, I’m already bored.

But all is well! It’s just our regular Poptropica that we know and love. There are some minor changes, but nothing major. It’s not like Poptropica is going to have sound all of a sudden. 😆

Welp, that settles it. All is lost. Adios. Poptropica is far and beyond what it once was. It has morphed into a monster.

6 months later, Monster Carnival Island is finally announced to come out. Poptropica really likes messin with my feelings.

My point in going over all the changes that Poptropica has gone through is not to throw you into despair. Let’s take a look at one of the pages from the Official Guide Book:

And with that, our journey ends. Or not. Poptropica lives on. We should too.

The Advertisation of Mr. Peabody and Sherman

(¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.-> Hi Gs, <-.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯)

There’s a new ad building showing it’s face in Poptropica, advertising the new movie by Dreamworks, Mr. Peabody and Sherman. The movie itself doesn’t look bad, and no, I’m not getting paid to say that, but what’s experimental about the ad is… well, the ad itself! 😆

First of all, inside the building (which I found on the Main Street of Monster Carnival Island), it’s a multiplayer room. I’m not kidding. Of course it makes the room laggy and what not, but I think it’s actually sorta a good idea! It gives the player a new common room and environment to interact with other kids in, and as you interact, you can get brain washed by advertising! I’m joking, of course. 😛

peabodyandshermanpic3

The downside is, the more they work on the common room aspect of the building, the less they can do with the special powers. You can get two new cards from this building: Scooter Power, and Zumba Power. All the Scooter Power does is makes Mr. Peabody and Sherman drive by the screen on a scooter. The Zumba Power shows an annoying clip of Mr. Peabody dancing.

peabodyandshermanpowers

There’s also a WABAC machine (from the movie), that shows yet another annoying clip from the movie. 😛

peabodyandshermanpic7

What’s really cool about the ad, other than the common room aspect, are the costumes. There is a Mr. Peabody costume, complete with dog mask, and a Roman/Greek/IDK Sherman costume next to it.

The mentioned things above are the highlights, but you can also watch the Movie Trailer, learn about the characters, and check out some snapshots from the movie. 😉

Costume Updates and more

(¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.-> Hi Gs, <-.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯)

Sorry I haven’t been very active on this blog lately… I’ll try to post more often from now on. 🙂

Today’s news is additions to my Messy Sinker costume! How exciting! (There’s more to it than that. 😛 )

close

The picture above is my costume closet. On the far left, you can see a navigator’s costume. This rare costume from Back Lot Island is now fully customizable from my closet! My username is “puterpop”. 😉

I happened to keep the costume while playing Back Lot today, although it wasn’t simple. 😛 I won’t give away my secret just yet.

weird wink

I already told you that I had made some additions to my outfit (in which everyone didn’t care), and I just wanted to elaborate on them. The first addition is a bag (NOT a purse) that resembles the inventory. I think it looks pretty neat. 😀 Secondly, I performed an eye glitch on my account, which I’m keeping secret for now, that makes my eyes do weird things when they blink. You can check my character out at the bottom of the post.

Out of the Box Logo

I’ve started a little fan fiction called “Out of the Box”, which is still sorta new, and I haven’t gotten the hang of it. It’s only half way done as of now, but it is public, and you can check it out hosted on Google Drive here.

And how do you like my new outro? 🙂

The Truth.

Hi Gs,

The Creators recently posted a post — one we’ve been waiting for for years. It’s all about Monster Carnival, and why they deleted it. You heard right.

It turns out the Poptropica Creators just weren’t ready to make the island. After just releasing Shark Tooth and Early Poptropica, I can see how something named “Monster Carnival” may seem pretty intimidating. But their ready for it now! Just after making the decision of sound updated islands, I think this was a wise decision. But will it be a fail? Only time will tell.

You can read the full post here. Enjoy. 🙂

Poptropica Labs: HP’s Review

Hi Gs,

Poptropica Houses?  Naw, that’ll neve–

poptropica labs logo

I was using a suggestible wifi hotspot on the parking lot of Pizza Hut today. I had to make my post about Mocktropica for everyone. I went ahead, and just for fun, logged into my Poptropica account. What did I see on the homepage? Something new:

new

Poptropica Labs is a new feature for members that allows them to test new and unreleased to the public features. Believe me, I am super excited to see how this turns out. I’m sure most of Ohio and some of Kentucky heard my girly scream when I saw the promo screen.

The newest test is called “Lands”, and is a sort of island maker with cool new features.

So, let’s see what this island maker can do!

The Lands

Guess what? These labs are in the old format! I’m starting to conclude that Poptropica will never be fully converted into SUI. The main hub of the game will stay the same. Anyway, this was a pretty wild experience! As a beta tester, I couldn’t save my “lands” that I created, but I still had some fun with it.

In a nutshell, this new feature makes Poptropica sorta like Minecraft. It is endless.

The idea is that you can create your own land from scratch. This land can be rainy, volcanoey (is that a word? Google doesn’t think so. 😛 ), crystally, or paradise. You can jump from pregenerated island to pregenerated island, each one different in it’s own way (Note: the blimp goes way too slow on the map…). Generate your own here: http://static.poptropica.com/popups/Demo/landPrototypeMap.swf

pregenerated

When you find an island that suits you, you can start customizing and developing it. Actually, I think that the term “island” should not be used… instead, just use land. Because running around and jumping on platforms is not an island.

The Petspets

Sadly, instead of narfs, Poptropica gives us pet rocks. They have eyes that follow your cursor, sometimes are evil, and did I mention narfs? We need narfs. All these pets do is jump around, run away from you, and act depressed. You hatch these little angels for 10 pop coins each, and they are not worth it. xD

When an angry rock happens to hatch, just blow it up before it chomps on you. Those guys are really annoying. 😛

The Pop Coins

gold

You probably have been questioning my mentioned “pop coins”. Guess what! Mocktropica is turning into a reality! In labs, everything costs money. When you’re all out, blow up stuff and mine for more! Actually, this feature turns out to be a lot of fun! Although it is a little hard to mine with bombs, I still enjoy this feature. Until you run out of land to blow up and the only place left with money is under the thing you are building… >.<

When you see a sparkling in the soil under you, you blow up the land until you reach it to earn money. Sometimes you’ll only get 15 pop coins, sometimes you’ll get hundreds in big bags. And sometimes, just sometimes, a bag of money will fall out of the sky, and you will have to chase it to the end of the screen to get it. I’m not even joking.

goldd

The (Fail) Houses

When you finally get around to making a house after trying out all the new features of rocks that move and blowing stuff up, you are going to fail. Miserably.

Turns out, when your environment is rainy, your house will not block out the rain. I guess I didn’t get the memo while creating my house, because I actually made one that you could go into…

poplabs

So… yeah. You can also do some pretty awesome stuff with the backing of your house:

pict (1)

I put air vents to blow me up the second floor, and mattresses covered the floor when you get there. Don’t ask why that rope is there… Anyway, you can make windows and wood/stone/bamboo backgrounds, etc. I also didn’t get another memo, which was that you can rotate your items with the left and right arrow key. 😛

The Tools

Poptropica (2)

As you can see in the picture above, the tools that you can build with are limited. You can have a rope, a mattress, an air vent, a door, adjust the water level, an egg that hatches a rock, a stupid basketball that gets stuck in places, a bomb, a ground pile, a stone pillar, a crate, a bunch of building supplies, and that’s pretty much it. Not much to play with it you ask me.

The Survey

After you finish your fun, you can take a survey and tell them what you think. I’m not going to give the link to everyone because that would definitely mess them up, but I can and will tell you that according to the survey, they have big ideas for this thing:

survey1

Those are all great ideas! What do you think about those possibilities?

~

I think “Lands” needs a little more work. The pets need toys, the tools need additions, the rain setting needs to be able to be turned off, and the angry pets need to appear more. 😛 Those guys are fun. And sorry if I was a little critical in my review… I was expecting something a little different. 😉

SUI Release Dates

Hi Gs,

This post is dedicated to release dates of Poptropica… you may find it boring. 😉

output_BiyxUv

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always felt like Poptropica had two teams of people making islands at one point.  In my opinion, back in the olden days (like a couple years ago) when Poptropica was making islands like they were out of style, there was a sort of pattern in the island releases.

It started with Shrink Ray island.  Even though I like it, it still isn’t a great island.  Then Mystery Train (good), Game Show (bad), Ghost Story (good), S.O.S. (bad), Vampire’s Curse (good), Twisted Thicket (bad)… of course, this is purely my opinion.

I’ll stop judging after that, because the pattern is inconsistent afterwards.  What do you think about my theory?

Here’s a nice piece of information: most of the old islands have already been remodeled.  How do I know?  Check out this xml file.  It is a list of all the islands that have been updated: http://static.poptropica.com/game/data/game/game.xml

That’s a lot of islands.  And they’re not all on there, so it isn’t just a list of islands to be updated.  Do you remember my failed prediction that Spy Island would be the next updated?  I made the prediction because the island, as far as I could tell, had already been uploaded.  Basically, what I’m saying is, we might be able to track the Creator’s schedule of releasing these SUIs.

Time Tangled was announced to be the next updated November 20, and was released December 10.  That’s a 30 day period in between there.  Coincidence?  I think not.

Thirty days from the time Mythology Island was announced to be updated would be February 7.  I might be wrong, but expect it to be that day.  And Creators, if you choose to change the date just to prove me wrong, I respect that. 😛

Also, it seems like Poptropica may have a language setting in the future!  Check out the .swf file for the SUI settings menu: http://static.poptropica.com/game/assets/ui/settings/settingsPanel.swf

There are four different language settings to choose from!  From what I can tell, it isn’t a released feature yet, but this sure is cool! 😀

Re:Daily Pops

Hi Gs,

I can tell you first hand that I love Daily Pops.  So much that I hacked into the system and found ones that haven’t been released yet!  Totally sane. 😛

sneakpeek_01-15-14

Chances are, the picture above will be the Daily Pop for tomorrow.  How did I find this?  Simple.  The Creators upload Daily Pops a day early.

Before you go ballistic, asking me “WHY HAVEN’T YOU TOLD US THIS BEFORE?!”, I wanna say that I just figured it out just a day ago, thanks to a lead by raqk.

The title is Everywhere Are Signs, and the description: Blocking out the scenery, breaking my mind.  This is obviously because the sign has no background. 😛  How do I find the description?  The XML file, of course.

I’m starting to piece the puzzle of the upcoming island together.  First, we may want to find the boss for the next island — it may reveal a lot.  Perhaps this mechanical clown is of the evil spirit:

boss

Now we know that the pharmacy posts are in relation to the mining posts.  The sign states “Medicine, Chemistry Sets, Minerals“.

Everytime I go through the Daily Pops, I always end up on something concerning Monster Carnival!  The story is being revealed, piece by piece:

In a mountain, you enter an eerie laboratory; on of Doctor  Price.  He has mutated himself into a fly, and then created other beings by mutating them.  Meanwhile, a circus master buys them to put on display…

More will be revealed later. xD  Of course, this is pure speculation.  What do you think?

Also, a long time ago I predicted that Gamer Guy would be the villain of Mocktropica.  Turns out I was wrong, but check out a recent Daily Pop post:

sneakpeek_01-06-14

We meet again, Abe.
