A Phone-y Photo Booth, a New Island for New Players, & More!

Hey guys! Spotted Dragon here with another Poptropica recap!

So, first things first! The Poptropica Photo Booth is now available on the app for iOS! Android and other mobile devices should also be updated soon. 😉

The Photo Booth is also coming to Mystery of the Map Island. 😛

In other news, you may have seen some jungle related Daily Pop sneak peeks lately. We thought it was hinting towards a new jungle themed island (and we were kind of right), but it turns out to be a bit different…

new island

This is what the Creators’ said about the new island:

Well, we’re trying something a little bit different this time. We’ve got over 40 full Islands on the site already. That’s great for most players, but some of those Islands — okay, most of them — are very complex and challenging!

That’s why we’re putting our efforts toward a new Island especially for first-time players. It’s shorter than most, with simpler objectives. The idea is to let new players understand how to approach the challenges of Poptropica and give them the tools they need to crack some of the tougher Islands, like Escape From Pelican Rock.

If you’re already a Poptropica expert, fear not! We think you’ll like this Island too. It’s got some fantastic art, great gameplay, and hilarious characters. In other words, everything you love about Poptropica!

We’ll let you know when this new Island is available. It’s coming soon!

So, this new island will basically be a tutorial. I’m assuming it will be similar to the tutorial we’ve seen on Hub/Home Island, but more detailed and useful. Looking at the art in the picture above, I’d say it looks pretty cool! 🙂

The Daily Pops above are perfect examples of what may be sneak peeks for the upcoming island.

Lots of monkey related pictures, huh? What about all the other animals of the world? What about pandas?!? Well don’t worry, Poptropica has got that covered too.

Heh, yeah it’s just a new ad for Kung fu Panda. XD

Anyway, moving on. The Creators have been posting a lot of things on Twitter. Specifically, one creator in particular. Why? Because the Twitter account is officially being run by Skinny Moon! Also known as Jessica.

The Twitter, and Poptropica’s other social media accounts, seem to be a lot more active now.

If you aren’t following the Creators, you should! They post lots of cool things like concept art, sneak peeks, and even things from fans!

Well, that’s all for now guys! Until next time! 😀

Poptropica: Hall of Fame & More

Hey guys! Sorry for all the inactivity. Hopefully in a week or two we will be able to post more often, being done with school and exams. Anyway, there are a few big announcements that we should catch up on.

If you haven’t heard already, Poptropica is starting a Hall of Fame contest! Well not exactly a contest… lemme explain.

hall of fame

The more islands you complete, the more likely you will win. If you do win, your Poptropican will be featured on the main street of a Poptropica Island! You will be the star for an entire week! 😛 For more detailed information on the Hall of Fame, read the Creators’ original post.

Moving onto the more minor stuff, there are a lot of behind the scenes images to share from Twitter (like always).

The first two don’t look like Poptropica’s normal art style, so it is probably meant for a sponsored island. Specifically, Timmy Failure Island, which will be coming out soon. The last picture, well, I’m not entirely sure. Post your ideas in the comments below!

While this next image isn’t exactly a behind the scenes masterpiece, it is still some pretty darn good concept art.

Lastly, some updates to the Poptropica App are coming soon. Specifically, a Mystery of the Map balloon game and royal costumes.

Pretty neat! That’s all for now guys. I hope to post more often soon! Thank you to all my authors that have been helping me out. 🙂

MotM Interview, PopStorms, FunBrain Ads, & More

Hello my fellow Poptropicans! No, the blog isn’t dead! I know we haven’t been the most active lately, but I’m going to try my best to fix that. Of course that means I need a lot of help from my authors. More info on activity to come. 😉

Thankfully, we haven’t missed too much. However, a ton of stuff is changing over at the Poptropica Help Blog, along with its name. They are joining the Poptropica Wiki among other things, to expand the Poptropica community. To be honest, I’m a little overwhelmed by it all. However, I encourage you to go check things out.

Anyway, let’s start off with a recent interview with the illustrator for the Myserty of the Map series, Kory Merritt. Note that Capatin Crawfish had the interview, not us. 😛

Captain Crawfish: How did you get involved in illustrating Mystery of the Map?

Kory Merritt: The Poptropica Creators originally hired me to illustrate the Poptropica comic strip. After a little while they asked me to try some graphic novel page samples, which led to me working on “Mystery of the Map” with author Max “Galactic Hot Dogs” Brallier.

CC: What are the challenges of adapting Poptropica’s art style from an online game to a graphic novel? What are the joys?

KM: Poptropica has a very distinct style. I’m actually an art teacher by day and didn’t have much freelance experience, so working for Poptropica was the first time I had to draw someone else’s characters. It took a little while to get the hang of it – the Poptropica design might seem simple at times, but there are little details that can make or break the characters. Fortunately, the Poptropica Creators were very patient and helped guide me along. I’m pretty happy with the results, for I think the illustrations resemble the standard Poptropican model, but at the same time have a hand-drawn, comic-type feel.

CC: What’s your process for illustrating the book?

KM: I’m old-fashioned enough to still use pen and paper for the most part, but for “Mystery of the Map” I also used digital color and made corrections in Photoshop.

CC: Who’s your favorite MotM character to draw?

KM: The Vikings! It’s fun to draw angry faces.

CC: What other projects have you worked on that Poptropicans might like to know about?

KM: I draw some of my own stories, mostly just for fun. One of them is on FunBrain, and some are on GoComics.com. It seems I will also have my own illustrated book coming out later this year, published by Andrews McMeel.

Pretty cool! While on the subject of Mystery of the Map, an island for the comic series will be coming out soon!

We have proven this by multiple Daily Pops suggesting the island, along with the fact that if you search for the URL mysteryofthemapisland.com, you will be redirected to Poptropica.com.

While still talking about island sneak peeks, we have yet another image for Arabian Nights, Episode 3.

Moving on, Popstorms 20 and 21 are here! 20 is entitled Practicing Powerful Poses and 21 is entitled Frantic Freckles.

Cute, as always. 😛

Moving on yet again, there is a new ad that has been popping up on FunBrain, featuring Poptropica. Of course FunBrain has always advertised for Poptropica (and vise versa), but this one is new.

Click here to view where the ad has been seen. You will have to refresh the page to see the 3 different versions. As you can see in the images above, the ad features some well known Poptropicans from the blogging community! We don’t know everyone shown, but we do know a lot of them. From left to right, Super Thunder, HPuterpop, Spotted Dragon (me), Green Boa, Coskit, Slanted Fish, Shaggy Tornado, Rainbow Dash/ElmoPwns, (IDK), MT/Happy Wolf, (IDK), and (IDK).

Moving on yet again… again… (I’m not great at transitions), the Creators released a fun Bingo Card that has characters from PoptropiCon Episode 3 on it.

bingo

Of course, the center title is a free space and you need to complete a row/column/diagonal to win. Good luck! 🙂

That’s all for now!

Ads: Odd Squad, BoxTrolls, & Strange Magic

Hey guys! There are a few new ads on Poptropica, which can be found on Main Streets such as those on Spy Island, Early Poptropica, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Let’s look at the Odd Squad ad first. All you have to do is watch a quick video to earn your prize! Boys get the Agent Otto costume and girls get the Agent Olive costume.

ad 1

Another ad is for BoxTrolls, and again, all you have to do is watch a quick video! Afterwards, you will get the BoxTrolls Transformer. When you click “transform”, all the Poptropicans near you will become BoxTrolls!

ad 2

There is also an ad called Strange Magic! The ad can be found on islands such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. All you have to do to earn your prize is watch a quick video (a trailer for the movie). Girls get Fairy Wings and I assume boys get a Staff and Imp Costume. If space bar is pressed while wearing the wings, a short scene will play out where an imp will appear on screen and your Poptropican will fly.

That’s it on ads! Keep a lookout for an upcoming Poptropica Realms post!
