Special Set of 7

Okay… so I got some bad news guys. Remember the whole Nabooti demo thing and how Nabooti Island is only for members now? Well, more islands have joined the members only club.

membership islands

There may be over 40 islands, but now 7 of those islands are exclusive for members. Those islands include:

Non-members can still play a demo of each island, but nothing beyond that.

Yes, what we have feared is true. I just hope Poptropica won’t become completely membership oriented. 😦

Way Back Week of Comics, PopStorm, and more!

Yeah, sorry we haven’t posted everything recently guys. Holiday preparations tend to get in the way. Anyway, here is a huge Poptropica update!

We will try to post as much as possible during the break, but the Creators will probably be taking some well deserved time off. However, they never just leave us hanging. This year has been a blast, including these big highlights:

Of course, 2015 will most likely have way more cool updates. The Creators are also going to have a “Way Back Week,” (we think) featuring some really cool Daily Pops from the past. It will be from the end of December to the beginning of January. However, we have found the images that will be used, so you can already view them below! 😉

Ah, the memories… this year has been pretty awesome. I want to take a quick moment to thank all of our viewers and all of my authors. The ATP wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without the help of everyone. I hope you have enjoyed this year as much as I have. 😀

Along with the end of the year commotion, we have two new PopStorms!

Other than that, we have multiple sneak peeks and behind the scenes images to consider. First off, an Escape Balloon.

escape balloon

Some people are getting reminded of the possibility of a Balloon Boy Returns Island. I personally think this may have to do with a Poptropica Comics Island (with Jorge and Oliver).

The next behind the scenes images are definitely related to Jorge and Oliver.

Yeah, I’m getting a big Poptropica Comics Island vibe. Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Now this next image does not seem to relate to the comics.

wormhole

This reminds me more of Galactic Hot Dogs Island. Talking about GHD, there have been a lot of Daily Pop sneak peeks regarding the island. Be sure to check them out!

Besides Islands, Poptropica Lands may soon become Poptropica Realms!

pop realms

I’m pretty sure we have already taken a look at this new feature, which is presumably a set of multiple worlds that we can create.

In less Poptropica relates news, Diary of a Wimpy Kid celebrations are happening!

Congrats Jeff! 🙂

Lastly, to anyone hating on Poptropica’s style

P.S. An Adventure Time update is coming soon! Along with that, a B-Day/Christmas Party is being currently planned! 😀

GHD Trailer & More!

Hey guys, we have a lot of updates in store. Let’s start out with the big one: Galactic Hot Dog Island. The trailer is now out, along with the Tour Page.

Looks pretty cool! 😀

From the hit graphic novel comes the zaniest Poptropica adventure yet. Hop aboard the Neon Wiener for an intergalactic voyage with Cosmoe, Humphree, and Princess Dagger!

Start your adventure now: read Galactic Hot Dogs season one on Funbrain!

The Tour Page oddly indicates that this island will not have episodes. At least, the episodes aren’t included on the page. On that note, episodes will soon be no longer:

Well, I personally didn’t like the episodes, so I’m perfectly fine with this. What about you guys?

Anyway, back to GHD Island. Two new store items will soon be out. The FRED Follower is free and the Galactic Space Suit is only for members.

Along with the GHD items, a new Arabian Nights item is now out for members! It is for members only and entitled Plundered Armor.

Remember that members can play Arabian Nights: Lair of Thieves tomorrow!

Other than that, the Creators have released another behind the scenes image.

Also, Jeff Kinney was on the Today show! Be sure to check it out! Mainly Diary of a Wimpy Kid related stuff. 😛

Well, that’s it for now! Stay popping! 😉

New Sites, Best Lands, Poptropolis History, Interviews, Raffle, & More!

Lots. Of. Updates. First off, have you ever heard of Jet Punk? It’s a site where you can make and take quizzes on your favorite topics. Be sure to search ‘Poptropica‘ and ‘Adventure Time‘ to test your knowledge! A very popular Poptropica themed quiz is where you name all the islands. Can you beat my score of 3:11? The higher your time, the better your score, since the timer goes down. Of course our own author, Brave Sky got 3:12… 😛

Also, Poptropica now has a Tumblr! Not much is going on over there yet, but still be sure to check it out! 😉

Of course, there has been a lot going on on Twitter. Including… another shout out for the ATP!

iheartfanart

Looks like the Creators really like your fan art guys! Be sure to send more art to us, at our email. To see more awesome fan art, click here. The image that the Creators decided to feature in their shout out was “I Heart Poptropica” by HPuterpop. 🙂

Other than the shout out, here is all the other stuff going on on Twitter.

There is a new Big Hero 6 ad (where you can earn a helpful follower and now in theaters), a rejected Black Flags Common Room idea, how to draw a planet from Galactic Hotdogs, early concept art for Monster Carnival Island, and another Popstorm. Too bad some of those Monster Carnival characters didn’t make it, they were awesome! Nothing else to say, really.

Although, there is also a new  Diary of a Wimpy Kid ad, for the upcoming “Long Haul” book. Will this turn into an island?

Now, even though the Lands Public Preview is over, that doesn’t been all the fuss is over just yet! You have seen the best of the best lands in all the categories… but who will be the best of the best of the best? Find out by voting for your favorite on the Creators Blog! Polls are up until Monday and right now, Zany Crown is in the lead.

Anyway, are you up for a history lesson? Wait, wait! Before you leave, just hear us out. It can be pretty cool to look into Poptropica’s past… or should I say Poptropolis? Take a look at these very early sketches of what could have been Poptropica today!

“What could have been! Way back in 2006, when we first started discussing Poptropica, I put together some mock-ups for what the site could look like. We envisioned an enormous map of single-scene rooms, and missions that you could go on every day. Some of this has come true, but a lot has changed! This was before we had the idea of islands or even the name Poptropica. Did you know Poptropica was originally going to be called Poptropolis? If a competitor didn’t come up with a similar-sounding name, we never would’ve had the islands of Poptropica… the building block of the whole virtual world.”

See? Not terribly boring at all! XD But who could this mysterious competitor be? Brave Tomato, from the PHB, thinks that it could have been Nicktropolis, which is now called NickClub. Well, it matches up.

nick

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m happy that Poptropica turned out the way it did. That bright yellow would have been a killer…

So now your interested in history, huh? Well, would a few interviews work for you?

First up, Poptropica comic artist Kory Merrit was interviewed by L’idea Magazine, an online magazine. Among other things, he talked about Poptropica, so here are the main Poptropica questions.

L’IDEA MAGAZINE: You are the illustrator of the comic strip Poptropica. How was this cooperation with Paul Gilligan started?
KORY MERRITT: Poptropica is an online game. I’ve never played it, but knew of it due to it being popular with my elementary students. The Poptropica creators (author Jeff Kinney, author/editor Jess Brallier, etc.) had plans to bring Poptropica to other media. From what I understand, they were in touch with Universal editor John Glynn, who had seen my illustrations and recommended me. The Poptropica creators were actually already familiar with my stuff, since I have a story on Poptropica’s sister site, FunBrain. So after a trial stage in summer 2013, they officially picked me as the illustrator for the comic strip and the graphic novel. Paul was selected as the writer of the comic strip. He’s a cool guy, and I think his “Pooch Café” is one of the best modern newspaper comics.

One of the Popotropica strips.

L’IDEA MAGAZINE: What is Poptropica about? (Please talk about content, characters, type of humor, etc…)
KORY MERRITT: As I said, it’s based on the online game. The main characters in the comic series are Oliver, his sister Mya, and a goofy kid named Jorge. Only Oliver and Jorge appear in the strip, but they all share the spotlight in the upcoming graphic novel. They end up in a world composed of strange islands, each with its own theme. I like the constantly-changing settings – one week I’m drawing werewolves, the next they’re on the moon.
I haven’t worked on the comic strip for a while. It was originally supposed to last only 26 weeks, which Paul and I finished last spring, but I just heard last week that they are planning to order another 26 weeks in 2015, so it will continue into next year at least.

Poptropica-21_jpg_cf

L’IDEA MAGAZINE: You are illustrating a graphic novel for a famous author. Are you still keeping the details secret or are we ready for the revelation of this mysterious author?
KORY MERRITT: Ah, that’s the Poptropica stuff. The famous author is Jeff Kinney, the Wimpy Kid himself – I think I’ve dropped that name a few times already. He created Poptropica and the characters from the Poptropica comics, along with author/editor Jess Brallier and some others. I’m presently drawing and coloring a 105-page graphic novel based on the Poptropica comic characters. It’s an original story from Jeff and Jess, and the script was written by Max Brallier, who has another illustrated series in the works. They’re really cool people. I’m lucky to be on board. I nearly geeked-out the first time I heard from Jeff, but luckily managed to keep it together (or at least that’s how I remember it).

If you noticed, this interview confirms the Poptropica graphic novel, coming in 2015. To read the entire interview, click here.

The same online magazine interviewed Paul Gilligan, Poptropica’s Comic Writer. Again, here are the Poptropica highlights.

L’IDEA MAGAZINE: In June of this year you debuted with another comic strip, Poptropica. Could you tell us how it came about and what is the storyline?
PAUL GILLIGAN: Poptropica is a popular website where players can create avatars and travel through a plethora of interesting islands.  The website’s creator, Jeff Kinney (of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” fame) wanted a comic strip to go with it, and so he hired me to do the writing.  There were pre-existing templates for the two main characters of Oliver and Jorge.  I fleshed them out and gave them the motivation that they’re searching for a way out of Poptropica by traveling from island to island, kinda like that show “Quantum Leap”, like each time they hop to the next island it will be the one that leads them home.

A Poptropica strip

L’IDEA MAGAZINE: In Poptropica you share the credits with Kory Merritt. How do you operate in the creation of the strip with him?
PAUL GILLIGAN: I do the writing, accompanied by thumbnails if necessary, and Kory pencils out the strips and runs them by me.  I bring up any alterations that might be necessary for clarity, etc, and then he inks and colors the work.  It’s been a fairly seamless collaboration thus far; Kory’s a great artist and super easy to work with.

Nothing was really given away, but it’s still interesting to read. To read the entire interview, click here.

BTS Images & Info

Hey guys! This post is gonna be full of behind the scenes (BTS) images, info, etc. However, these aren’t really spoilers. Click to enlarge any images.

First off, don’t forget that Arabian Nights Island is coming out this Thrusday! For those of you who just can’t wait, the Poptropica Creators recently tweeted a picture of their Arabian Nights logo drafts.

bts island 6

I probably like the final logo the best, but the others seem pretty cool too. The Creators also shared some drafts of the actual island.

That’s it for Arabian Nights, but we do have another set of logo drafts! This time, for Mission Atlantis Island.

bts island 3

Some of those fonts are really cool. XD Anyway, those were all the logo drafts we found, but we do have other drafts. What would you say about island drafts? Well, apparently Water Thrill Island was going to come out, but it eventually got rejected.

Of course, many Poptropicans were wondering why this awesome idea was trashed and the Creators responded by saying…

Let’s change our wording from “rejected” to “rejected for now.” Got hundreds of ideas. Tough to choose. A juggling act.

Therefore, this island might have a chance. 😉 While on the topic of unreleased islands, we should expect another Wimpy Kid Island and/or a Galactic Hot Dog Island (after PoptropiCon and Arabian Nights of course)!

bts island 7

I’m up for another Wimpy Kid. What about you guys?

bts island 8

Anyway, in conclusion to the 50th anniversary of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Creators have made their final post on the Roald Dahl website. Find the first post here, the second post here, and the third/final post here.

That’s all for now, hopefully we will have more BTS stuff up soon. 😛
